Canadian Taylor Swift fans launch food bank fundraiser

The Taylor Swift Eras tour will be landing in Canada in mid-November and fans are already planning special events and ways to celebrate the pop queen.

While parties and “fan project” initiatives will be happening around Swift’s six nights in Toronto (Nov. 14-16 and 21-23) and three shows at Vancouver’s B.C. Place (Dec. 6-8), the Canadian Facebook page Tay It Forward Canada is encouraging fans to follow the lead of the Cruel Summer singer, and now official Kamala Harris supporter, and make a donation to Food Banks Canada.

The billionaire, 14-time Grammy Award winner donates to food banks in every city her tour stops in.

“We are following Taylor’s lead and giving back (#iTSgiving13) by choosing Food Banks Canada to help us in this mission as we fight food insecurity in Canada together!” said a statement on the Tay It Forward Canada Facebook page.

Organizers are hoping to raise $1.3 million for food banks. Keeping with that 13 theme, organizers are suggesting that fans donate just $13 (13 is a lucky Swiftie number), but of course any amount is welcome as, according to Statistics Canada, about 23 per cent of Canadians will use food banks this fall.

The page also encourages Swifties to make friendship bracelets with Tay It Forward or the hashtag #iTSgiving13 on them and wear them proudly.

“Keep the spirit of this movement going with random acts of kindness across the country, and leave a bracelet with the recipient of each completed act to remember this moment.”

Donations can be made through the Food Banks Canada Tay It Forward fundraising portal.
